Finance Brokers

Check out any national newspaper, and you'll find they are full of ads from companies offering finance. Presumably there is a demand or the ads wouldn't keep running.

Many companies offer finance agencies where you are required to respond to enquiries and post out application forms. You then earn commission on successful loans. As an agent you are only involved up to completion of the application form, not for repayments or defaulters. Commission can vary greatly, with the higher sums paid on loans secured against property so don't be misled by the high commission rates quoted by some companies.

You may be asked to pay for a registration pack which will include all the necessary documentation, application forms, specimen ads and more. For these fees expect to receive some form of training with either a one day course or extensive manual, and some benefit from national advertising programmes. Generally your fee is refundable on completion of your first loan or specified number of loans, so if you or a member of your family are planning to take out a loan shortly this could be the ideal way to get into the business free of charge, and save money on a loan at the same time.

Telephone a company prior to sending any money to ensure you are happy with their attitude. I have known companies that won't even answer general questions at this point and clearly you will be speaking to these people regularly in the future and must have confidence in them.

You will only be able to act as an agent for one company unless you have your own Consumer Credit Licence. Any reputable company will be able to assist with this.

Before parting with any money, research any business carefully, as many in this sector cannot be recommended, often failing to convert any leads and generally being unprofessional. Membership to sites like UK Business Opportunity Review will give you reviews from others who have tried out these brokers. Cheshire Finance for example has an average rating below 0 out of 10!

Agency Central provide a list of recruitment agencies who have registered themselves as recruiting for Independent Mortgage Broker jobs in the UK. Clicking on each individual recruitment agency will allow you to see detailed information about the services they offer and the types of candidates that they do and do not recruit for. Generally these are professional positions requiring Fully CeMap or equivalent qualifications.

Alternatively, many online finance companies offer affiliate programmes, free of charge, where you can earn commission on both introductions and successful applications. If you have your own website you can add links and banners, but if not, in some cases, you can simply promote the personalised site address you are given, or use a shorter forwarding address.

Online Media Group (OMG UK) is an affiliate site specialising in financial and insurance companies from such household names as Barclaycard, HSBC, Direct Line, Churchill and Alliance & Leicester.
