Advertising Away From The Internet

This site deals primarily with UK opportunities, although some may also be available in other countries. If you are based outside the UK, please click here for the international site.

Wherevever you are based, the success of your business is not dependent solely on the quality of the product or service you are supplying. It doesn't matter how wonderful it is if nobody knows about it. To succeed in business, in my opinion publicity and advertising rank a close third in importance behind quality of product and customer service.

This means you mustn't cut corners with your product, you mustn't be let down by your customer service and you cannot ignore the importance of advertising. If you don't have any time or money to publicise your business you might as well not bother.

That doesn't mean you need to spend a fortune, but you do need to chose the most effective advertising for your purpose. For example, you don't need a full page advertisement in a national newspaper if you're offering a service in your own area only and a classified ad in "Pigeon Fanciers weekly" may not be the best place for your perfumery business, even if they are offering a special deal this week.

Whichever form of advertising you chose, and you needn't just stick to one, make sure you code you ads so that you know where the business is coming from. It's a complete waste of time and money if you don't know which locations are successful and which are bringing in no business at all.

First and foremost, there's little point spending time and money on advertising if you haven't got the words right. The following resources are strongly recommended.

 SALES LETTERS

Whatever you choose to promote, be it a single product, a business opportunity, network marketing or your own services, you need to be able to make that sale. No matter how good you think your offer is, convincing others can be the difference between success and failure. A good sales letter can be this difference but most of us wouldn't have a clue where to begin - until now!

I've just come across the most amazing set of sales letter templates that will solve all your problems online or offline. Just choose the appropriate template and fill in the blanks. There are letters for promoting Network Marketing and Business Opportunites, information products and for retailers, professionals and just about anything else you can think of.

Forget the average 0.5% response rate to direct mail campaigns, these letters are easily generating 10-15% response rates, and often even more, but don't take my word for it - take a look at some of the testimonials on the site. They really are impressive. And if you're still not convinced, there's a no strings 1 year money back guarantee.

Make Your Words Sell

Primarily designed for writing web copy, much of the information applies equally offline.

Classified Newspaper Ads
You may be limited to just a few words in a classified ad but you are sure of reaching a larger cross section of the public. With internet access becoming commonplace, consider using an autoresponder to complement the site. You then need only quote the relevant e-mail address and enquirers can get all the information sent to them instantly at no cost to you or them. You get the names and contact details and can be sure that if anyone follows up your ad after reading the e-mail that they understand the offer and are genuinely interested.

Business Opportunity Magazines
One of the most cost effective ways of bringing your business to the attention of other potential business operators. Generally by subscribing to one or more of these magazines you can make big savings on advertising costs, often qualifying for free ads worth more than the cost of the subscription. Click here for details of some of the best magazines currently around or e-mail for details of how to get sample copies of around 20 different magazines.

Direct Mail
Not the cheapest way to publicise your business but one of the most effective if you target correctly. You can buy mailing lists from many sources but make sure the lists are fresh and appropriate to your product. Click here for a few recommended companies if your business would be of interest to business opportunity seekers, for example if you are seeking agents.

BusinessMailing.co.uk is a leading provider of direct marketing tools and resources targeted at UK businesses only. Products include email and postal business lists provided either by region, business category or a combination.

Print and Mail
Similar to direct mail, but much cheaper. In these cases your flyer or advertising letter is sent out with the literature of other companies (often business magazines) to subscribers, or a selected mailing list. More often suitable where you are looking to recruit other agents, or offering services to other businesses, a selection of companies can be found here

Leaflet Distribution
You can either deliver leaflets door to door in your own area or there are now many companies around that will do this work for you all over the UK. If you're already delivering leaflets for your own business why not offer your services to others at the same time. There are a few franchise companies that will help you set up for a small monthly fee. Click here for details

Posters/Notice Boards
Public buildings like libraries, universities, supermarkets, newsagents etc. often have notice boards where you can place posters or business cards for free or just a few pence.

Press Releases/Articles/Contributions
A great way to get publicity is to get yourself known personally. Write about your business experiences or offer to write a regular column in a relevant magazine or newspaper. Send off press releases to local papers, radio and TV when you launch a new service. Who knows, if you have something new to offer, it could be picked up nationally.

You might also like to consider offering free or discounted goods or services as competition prizes or promotions in newspapers and magazines. A classic win-win situation where you get the advertising and they get a promotion to attract readers.

Word of Mouth
Don't underestimate your most powerful form of advertising - personal recommendations. Encourage all your satisfied customers to recommend you to their friends. Maybe offer a small incentive for introductions. Keep a file of any letters of praise and try to incorporate some of these testimonials into your publicity material.

Design Services
If you don't already have professionally designed sales literature, you should consider getting this done for you. There are many companies around that will adapt a basic idea or design a flyer from scratch for just a few pounds. Alternatively, take advice on the do's and don'ts if you want to do it yourself. A local printer will run you off any quantity of leaflets (although smaller quantities may be uneconomical), but there are also many companies that will do your copying by mail order, including one that can take your order straight from your computer by uploading through the internet. This is especially important if you've designed your own documents on your own computer but don't have a sufficiently high quality printer to produce a master copy. Click here for printing companies to consider

Promotional Gifts
Costing from only a few pence, you can personalise pens, mugs, T-shirts and just about anything else with your company details. Sending these out to clients or prospective clients helps to fix your business in their mind and keep your details to hand. Many companies offer these services so check out the latest Exchange and Mart for a selection or visit Viking Direct or T Shirt Studio
